Sempaya Hot Springs, tucked away in Semuliki National Park in western Uganda, are among Africa’s most fascinating natural attractions. Famous for their steaming geysers that reach up to 103°C (217°F), the springs are both a geological wonder and a cultural treasure.

The site features two main geysers—the “Male Spring” and the “Female Spring”—each surrounded by dense forests alive with wildlife. Visitors are often amazed as jets of boiling water shoot several meters into the air, while locals demonstrate how eggs and bananas cook within minutes in the bubbling pools.

Location

Sempaya Hot Springs are found in Bundibugyo District, at the edge of the Rwenzori Mountains, near Uganda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are about 52 km from Fort Portal and roughly 372 km from Kampala. The journey along the Fort Portal–Bundibugyo Road treats travelers to scenic views of rolling hills, lush tropical forests, and the breathtaking Semuliki Valley.
